Let’s just say that Makoto’s calculated and disgusting actions will just make you want to punch him in the face.

13. Miki Kawai (A Silent Voice)

A Silent Voicefollows Shoya Ishida, a former elementary school bully. Now that he’s in high school, he tries to make amends with one of his victims, a deaf girl named Shoko Nishimiya.

Despite the fact that Ishida was an actual bully,Miki Kawaistands out as one of the biggest villains in the movie.

In elementary school, Kawai never attempted to stop Nishiyima from getting bullied, and instead giggled on the sidelines. Throughout the film, she proceeds to act narcissistic and never admits any wrongdoing.

12. Griffith (Berserk)

GriffithbeginsBerserkas a respectable, even admirable, character. He leads a powerful mercenary group alongside Guts and Casca.

However, he ends up letting down his allies and assaulting one of them. In this way, he doesn’t just betray the trust of his so-called “teammates,” but he also betrays the viewers.

11. Kyubey (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)

There’s no doubt about it:Kyubeyis adorable. His cat/rabbit-like features will draw you in immediately. When his malevolent role inMadoka Magicagets revealed, most viewers don’t expect it.

Kyubey promises to grant the wishes of young girls, but there’s a catch—the girls must become “magical girls” with the responsibility of fighting witches.

This sounds like an amazing opportunity, but the manipulative Kyubey has a secret goal that will make these girls suffer.

10. Nina Einstein (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion)

The entireCode Geassfanbase can agree thatNina Einsteinis a horrible character. Not only does Nina harbor racist views against the “Elevens” (aka Japanese people), but she becomes unhealthily obsessed with Princess Euphemia.

While there’s nothing wrong with admiring a princess, Nina takes it way too far—she loves Euphemia so much that she develops a deadly weapon for her sake.

9. Kirito (Sword Art Online)

You might considerKiritofromSword Art Onlineone of the most heroic anime characters—and while that’s absolutely correct, Kirito is heroic in the blandest way possible.

He’s what’s known as a Gary Stu: a character who’s perfect in every way, free of weaknesses, and basically loved by everyone he runs into even when they have no reason to.

InSword Art Online’s first story arc, Kirito doesn’t lose. He always manages to beat his enemies and get the girl. Kirito is just a generic hero with no character development.

8. Pariston Hill (Hunter X Hunter)

InHunter X Hunter,Pariston Hillis a high-ranking Hunter and a Zodiac by the name of “Rat.” He hasn’t really done anything wrong, so why does everyone hate him so much?

Well, during the 13th Hunter Chairman Election Arc, it’s revealed that he’s been playing with everyone and manipulating them, using every opportunity he can to his own advantage.

He’s mysteriously cunning as if there’s always something bad brewing in his mind. And on top of that, he’s even more detestable for that gentlemanly facade that hides his malicious intent. Just seeing him smile is annoying and makes him that much more hateful.

7. Mahito (Jujutsu Kaisen)

Mahitois the embodiment of evil. InJujutsu Kaisen, he’s a special-grade Cursed Spirit born of human hatred towards each other.

As a villain, he’s pretty cool and loaded with powerful abilities—but as a person, he’s despicable and deserves to be hated.

At best, Mahito is a manipulative individual who can easily sway any normal human toward his own dark desires. He controls and exploits people on a whim without a single care for human beings.

The way he toyed with the innocent Junpei is notably harsh. From killing his mother to turning him against a friend, Mahito is hateful.

6. Saint Charlos (One Piece)

There are several so-called Tenryubito (or Celestial Dragons) in theOne Pieceanime series, butSaint Charlosreceived all the hate on behalf of them—for many valid reasons.

As a character, he’s done several terrible things that not only angered Luffy and his crew but seriously ticked off fans.

He’s immensely proud and looks down on everyone, strutting around and feeling almighty as he urges everyone to get out of his way. The path he walks is exclusively for him. Only he’s deserving of it.

But that’s really all this snotty-nosed old man has to his name: political power that’s granted to world nobles and elites, which is the only reason why he’s anywhere near the top of the hierarchy.

The moment Luffy sent him flying with a single punch? So satisfying!

5. Gabi Braun (Attack on Titan)

In the latter seasons ofAttack on Titan,Gabi Braunis introduced as one of the most ambitious Warrior candidates in the nation of Marley, and she has proven herself worthy of her title and her praise.

When she’s first introduced, she’s just a kid but already she’s a competent soldier who can outperform those who are older.

But she’s on this list because she committed an unspeakable deed for fans of the show: she killed Sasha.

No matter how skilled and capable she is, this grievous act made her so unforgivable that she became the most hated anime character among theAttack on Titanfandom.

4. Minoru Mineta (My Hero Academia)

You can tell thatMinoru Minetais annoying just by looking at him. His obnoxious lumpy mohawk compliments his equally obnoxious personality. Mineta (unfortunately) stars inMy Hero Academia, and successfully tarnishes the show with his useless antics.

It’s not Mineta’s lame ball-producing Quirk that makes him a hated character—it’s his lewd comments, childish personality, and outspokenness that make him hateable.My Hero Academiawould be way better off without him.

3. Malty Melromarc (The Rising of the Shield Hero)

Malty Melromarcis one of the most cunning characters in anime, who was able to bring the downfall of the main character inThe Rising of the Shield Hero. She’s pretty—and she exploits that for her evil schemes.

Given all the things she’s done throughout the series, it’s no surprise that fans agree that death is too good for her. Instead, she should be stripped of her royalty and left to suffer as a nobody.

In the end, she’s given a new name—one that’s actually quite degrading and rude—and it totally serves her right.

To make matters worse, Shou Tucker did the same to his wife while claiming that she simply up and left the family years ago.

1. Boruto (Boruto: Naruto Next Generations)

For so many years, we watched Naruto develop as a character from the lonely abandoned boy to the most powerful ninja of his time. It was a story full of ups and downs and memorable moments.

And then the sequel came along. At first,Boruto: Naruto Next Generationspromised more of the same ninja-centric world with excellently developed characters—but it failed to deliver.

Many fans ofNarutohate the character ofBoruto. We love the idea of Naruto having a kid who continues his lineage, but Boruto is just a spoiled brat who’s basically the opposite of his father.

And it’s not just Boruto’s personality that makes him the worst. It’s the fact that he retroactively ruined Naruto’s reputation, which took him years to build and cost him blood, sweat, and tears.

Sure, Boruto has his own path of development that he needs to take, and it’d be boring if it was the same path that Naruto took. However, the amount of damage he’s caused on top of his grating personality makes you wonder whether his character’s journey is worthwhile at all.
