10. Return of the Golden Child (Season 2, Episode 2)
This episode is decent overall, but what earns it a spot among the best episodes ofThe IT Crowdis the introduction of the great Matt Berry as Douglas Reynholm—one of the best comedic characters ever created for TV.
The funeral scene that he bursts into is one of my favorite moments of the show. Matt Berry is truly fantastic in everything he does, so if you see his name attached to anything, watch it! It’s guaranteed to be good.
9. The Dinner Party (Season 2, Episode 4)
Jen’s dinner party plans fall through and she is forced to invite Moss, Roy, and their goth co-worker Richmond to the party instead of her intended guests.
Roy calls dibs on the model, but she shows up with a bandaged face from a horrific accident. Moss is paired with an out-of-control drunk woman, and the duo end up behaving like a bitter married couple by the end of the party.
Richmond unexpectedly hits it off with an awkward woman who provides constant overly self-conscious commentary of everything that’s happening to her. The whole dinner situation ends up being one of the funniest scenes in the show.
8. From Hell (Season 3, Episode 1)
Moss is being repeatedly bullied by teenagers in a park. Roy tries to teach him to stand up for himself, but Moss takes things a little too far. The episode ends with Moss wildly waving a gun in the air as the bullies scatter in terror.
7. The Speech (Season 3, Episode 4)
InThe Speech, Jen is named “Employee of the Month” and has to give a speech as a computer expert—but is technologically oblivious. You can see where this might be going!
Roy and Moss trick Jen into believing that they convinced “the elders of the internet” to allow her to show “the internet” to the audience for her speech. They give her a small black metal box with a blinking red light on it that they tell her is “the internet” and she believes them.
The problem is… the audience ends up believing the rouse as well. During the speech, the box gets smashed, causing the audience to fall into pandemonium as they think the internet has broken.
6. Moss and the German (Season 2, Episode 3)
Roy really wants to watch a zombie DVD but can’t find a place to play it. He ends up making an agreement to be eaten by a cannibal whom Moss mistakenly found in the classifieds—just so he can use the man’s TV.
He plans to back out of the deal after he’s done watching the movie. But before he can finish it, the police bust into the cannibals apartment. At the police station, Moss and Roy are surprised to learn that the cops don’t know about the cannibal.
The cops are actually investigating DVD piracy and brought them in for questioning about the movie that Roy’s been trying to watch the whole episode.
5. The Final Countdown (Season 4, Episode 2)
In this episode, we find out that Moss is a member of an elite secret club that playsCountdown—a words-and-numbers puzzle game. The undergroundCountdownscene is reminiscent of an illicit drag racing club, and everyone there treats the game with hilarious seriousness.
4. The Haunting of Bill Crouse (Season 1, Episode 5)
Jen asks Moss to tell a man (with whom she had a bad date) that she isn’t around, but Moss is a terrible liar. He tells the man that Jen has died.
Unbeknownst to Jen, the entire company thinks she is now dead—and the man thinks Jen is haunting him. The mistaken haunting scenes in this episode are some of the funniest moments of the show!
3. Tramps Like Us (Season 3, Episode 3)
The funniest part of this episode is when Douglas (the boss) is forced—as part of a settlement for a sexual harassment lawsuit—to wear underwear that electrocutes him when he becomes aroused. As a result, we get one of the best lines of the show: “God-damn these electric sex pants!”
2. The Work Outing (Season 2, Episode 1)
In this episode, Roy uses a bathroom meant for disabled people and pulls the emergency cord when trying to flush the toilet.
He spends the rest of the episode pretending to be in a wheelchair while becoming more irreversibly entrenched in his lie. As the helplessness of his situation increases, so does the humor as we watch Roy have no choice but to go along for the ride.
He ends up being put on a bus to a far-away town, with no way out except to accept his fate.
1. Are We Not Men (Season 3, Episode 2)
Moss and Roy masquerade as sports-loving men with the assistance of a computer program called “Bluffball” that teaches them phrases that relate to soccer, like “Did you see that ludicrous display last night?”
Roy ends up owing money to one of his new soccer fan pals and agrees to do him a favor. He finds out that the favor involves being the wheel man for a bank robbery—that he doesn’t realize is happening until it’s too late.
Moss helps Roy escape the long arm of the law by kissing him for a distraction as the cops speed by to arrest the heist crew.
This whole episode is hilarious and full of some of the shows most quotable lines. Moss and Roy trying to not be the geeks they are always brings the laughs.
