7.Touhou Luna Nights The style ofTouHou Luna Nightsis quite uncanny compared to the other Metroidvania games on this list. If you’re a fan of the vertical-scrolling bullet hell game,Touhou Project, you might recognize the main character, Sakuya Izayoi. Touhou Luna Nightsis essentially a Metroidvania tribute to theTouhou Project, but that doesn’t mean you have to be a fan of theTouhouProjectin order to play. InTouhou Luna Nights, you take control of a maid who’s transported to a parallel universe....

7.Recompile The execution ofRecompilemay leave a bit to be desired compared to its concept, but the story is absolutely brilliant. InRecompile, you play as an anthropomorphic computer program that shoots, jumps, and hacks its way through the process of computer repair. The art style ofRecompileis minimalistic, but it works well with the story, which itself is delivered through optional text logs. As you unravel the mystery of why the space station is slowly decaying from the inside, you start to understand why the game plays the way it does....

7. Danmaku Unlimited 3 Bullet hell shooters are known for being especially punishing, so it may seem odd, butDanmaku Unlimited 3is a more kindly type of bullet hell shooter. For starters, you can set the game to display your hitbox, which makes dodging bullets easier. There’s also a beginner-friendly mode that makes everything much easier. If you’re looking to get into shoot ‘em ups but are put off by the difficulty curve,Danmaku Unlimited 3is a great place to start....
